Academic Program
The educational philosophy of Texas Christian Academy has three emphases; the mastery of essential academic content, the development of intellectual and practical skills, and the cultivation of personal faith and integrity. The curriculum is constructed to promote academic integration and to train the students to forge connections across disciplinary boundaries.
Bible, English, History and Foreign Language form a humanities base that births thinking, analytical, and communication skills and provides a balanced and Biblical perspective on the past and present. The skills and perspectives developed in the humanities are enhanced as they are applied in the study of Science and Mathematics. Explorations into those disciplines enable the students to gain an understanding of their world and the principles that govern it. Physical education and athletics stretch the mental and physical abilities of the students and train them in the principles of health and fitness. The Fine Arts nourish an appreciation of truth and beauty and expose the students to the possibilities and joy of self-expression.
Mastery of the discovery, and significance of essential facts, ideas, and concepts combined with proficiency of intellectual and practical skills provides students with the possibility of success. That success, however, cannot be fully achieved unless the third emphasis of Texas Christian Academy philosophy of education becomes a reality: the cultivation of the student's personal faith in Jesus Christ and the consequent development of their personal integrity and maturity. The aim of this spiritual growth is for the students to form values and convictions and to formulate long-term goals as to the kind of person they want to become and the kind of lives they want to live. They will then learn the management and organizational skills necessary for living their daily and weekly lives in submission to their long-term goals and their personal values.
It is the firm conviction of Texas Christian Academy that these goals can be achieved best through the cooperative effort of the four parties essential for successful education:
The Lord Jesus Christ
The Student
The Family
The School
With the Lord's grace as the essential and pervasive element, the other three parties can carry out their solitary responsibilities. The student provides individual ability, effort and character. The family provides love, support, discipline, finances, and spiritual values. The school provides trained and caring Christian teachers, a challenging curriculum, spiritual reinforcement, and opportunity for self-expression in a secure and open learning environment.
It is the cooperation of the student, the family, and the school, under God's grace, and the commitment to develop knowledge, skills and spiritual values in the students, that form the heart of Texas Christian Academy's educational philosophy.
